UK Team Epsilon Dominate The Call Of Duty European Championship

This past weekend saw the titans of the European Call Of Duty competitive circuit battle it out for supremacy, a $5,000 prize pool and the opportunity to secure a place in the LA Call of Duty Championship finals.

But, as always, all eyes were on the top two UK teams – Epsilon and TCM – as their intense rivalry switched gears from Call Of Duty: Ghosts to Advanced Warfare for the new season.

TCM were looking to repeat their victorious display from last year’s Call Of Duty European Championship, while Epsilon – bolstered by the return of professional players Swanny, MadCat and Tommery – were looking to reassert their dominance on the circuit.

The Sunday showdown between the two British teams saw Epsilon produce a commanding display against their rivals, starting with a solid win on Hardpoint and a tense Search & Destroy second round that finished 6-5 in the closing seconds.

TCM tried its best to pull the tournament back in its favour, with Jurd utilising some sweet skills to win Uplink on the third map in overtime for the reigning champions. Though it wouldn’t prove to be enough – Epsilon ended any hopes of a TCM comeback with a truly dominant performance on Capture The Flag, ensuring they were crowned the new European Call Of Duty champions and took home the $5,000 prize.

Of course, becoming European champions is one thing – but the teams were really in attendance at The Royal Opera House to book a place to the Call Of Duty Championship worldwide finals, held between 27-29 March in LA.

Epsilon secured qualification without any problems, producing a convincing 30-0 Search and Destroy record performance before destroying Ambition in a final live match to earn its place at the finals. The team will now be front runners to be in with a chance of winning their share of a $1,000,000 prize pool.

13 other teams ultimately qualified alongside the new reigning European champions, but do they have what it takes to combat the American giants? Despite strong performances in the past, only one European team has actually managed to secure a podium placement at the Call Of Duty World Championship, MLG and UMG tournaments.

That’s a pretty poor record, but things are looking up for the European teams – with Epsilon, TCM and Infused looking stronger than ever. Of course, the same can be said for last year’s finalists/podium placers EnVyUs and OpTic Gaming, who have both already proven their ability to dominate in Advanced Warfare in the American leagues.

So, does a British team have any hope of winning a share of the million-dollar prize pool? It won’t be long to find out now: the Call of Duty: Championship will take place March 27-29 in LA, and you’ll be able to watch it live over Xbox Live.
